How to sync up your MySpace and Twitter status

Sort form: No direct way, use a third party tool.

Myspace and Twitter syncingLong form: Since MySpace (finally) opened its API, there are applications being created with the intent to sync it up with Twitter, but they haven’t gotten it right yet. Min Tweets, MiniTweet and Tweet! are all applications that display within your MySpace page, but do not update the actual MySpace status. The closest app so far is Twitter Sync, but it’s only works in one direction, syncing your MySpace up to Twitter. It is unable to pull the Twitter status down to MySpace.

But, don’t be disheartened, there is a way. Twitter and MySpace (and its apps) may not pass information back and forth as we would intent, but there are other sites that will. I am trying ping.fm, which is a simple service for updating multiple social networks all at once. It’s very easy:

  1. Set up an account at ping.fm
  2. Be comfortable enough giving ping your login info for Twitter, MySpace and any other social network you want it to update.
  3. Send your update from the ping.fm site and it will do the rest, broadcasting it out for you.

Granted it would be preferred to actually enter your update on a site that you want to display it, but it’s still better than having to open and update each site individually. If you have a better approach, please let me know by commenting below.

Wait, MySpace still exists?!? That’s unfortunate for them to introduce an API so late in the game.

    Well, there’s now a better way…

Take your Twitter RSS feed, and run it through feedburner.google.com after that, go to pingvine.com and link your new feed to your ping.fm account w/ you API key, and then update your twitter status, and it’ll get read into ping.fm and rebroadcast out to myspace!
